New to betta fish care?

I am very new to being an owner of a betta fish. I came home one Saturday afternoon to see that my wife was at the pet store and felt bad for this little fish stuck in a very small round bowl. She said that the bowl was so small she had no idea how the fish could even move. Now one fish, fish tank, gravel, and some plants latter I have this betta on top of my tv cabinet that I need to take care of.
So now off to the internet to learn about this little fish and betta fish care. One of the most common thing I learned was the size of the tank. I need to have a big enough tank for the fish to move around in. The biggest reason is that when they open their fins they do not hit them on anything that could tear them.
The other big reason is for the water itself. The water has oxygen in it that the fish needs to live. The bigger the tank the longer the betta can survive on the oxygen. It seems to make sense but before now I had never thought about it.
I will also put up a picture of my new little friend as soon as I get my camera back form getting fixed. If you have picture of your betta fish I would like to check them out.
Learning about betta fish care one day at a time.
